Situated in Japan with campuses spanning Toyonaka, Suita, Minoh, and Nakanoshima, Osaka University is a prominent public research university.Established in 1931 as Osaka Imperial University (with academic roots tracing back to the Kaitokudo founded in 1724), the university operates under the guiding motto, "Live Locally, Grow Globally". Navigating Admissions: The International Student Pathway


Osaka University provides specialized entry points for international students, though the admissions process remains highly competitive with an overall acceptance rate of 13%.

The step-by-step admission process requires:

1. Eligibility & Application:

  • Indian students applying for postgraduate programs must apply via an Osaka Agent and the University Official Portal.

  • Applicants are required to complete the application form with all relevant documents, submit their test scores, and pay the application fee.

2. Language Competence:

  • International applicants must possess at least the minimum language requirement for their program.

  • Language proficiency can be formally demonstrated through standardized tests such as JLPT, TOEFL, IELTS, or TOEIC.

  • Alternatively, it is possible to apply if a faculty member in charge of language study at the applicant's home university certifies that the student's language proficiency is equivalent to the minimum requirement.

3. Institutional Support for Exchange:

  • Prospective exchange students must first obtain support from their home university or institute by contacting their local exchange program staff.

Similar to other prestigious Japanese national universities, Osaka University offers a highly favorable return on investment with strictly regulated tuition costs.

  • Tuition Fees: The standard annual tuition fee for both undergraduate and graduate students is ¥535,800. However, students enrolled in the Graduate School of Law pay a higher annual fee of ¥804,000. Tuition is paid via automatic bank transfer in two installments: the first in May and the second in November.

  • Matriculation Fee: A one-time matriculation fee of ¥282,000 is universally required for incoming undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Entrance Examination Fee: Undergraduates must pay an entrance examination fee of ¥17,000, while graduate students pay ¥30,000.

  • Alternative Student Fees: Auditor students are charged ¥14,400 per credit, and research students pay ¥28,900 per month.

  • Dorm Fees: The average dormitory fees ranging from ¥7,600 to ¥60,000 per month.
